Vladimir Putin inspects Aquatics Palace in Kazan

President of Russia Vladimir Putin inspected the Aquatics Palaceduring his working visit to the host city of the 27th Summer Universiade.

The Head of State was accompanied by First Deputy Prime Minister and Games Organising Committee Chairman Igor Shuvalov, and RustamMinnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan.


While visiting the Aquatics Palace, Vladimir Putin was briefed on the key features of the upcoming sporting event. According to Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Vladimir Leonov, the Summer Universiade in Kazan will be the biggest in the history of FISU. Competitions in 27 sports will be held at 64 venues, with 13,500 athletes competing in 351 medal events.

The Aquatics Palace is a unique sports complex constructed in the build-up to the 27th Summer Universiade Kazan 2013. It will become the landmark venue for the 2015 FINA World Championships. It was designed and built in accordance with the FINA requirements and is fully adapted to the needs of disabled visitors.


3.628 billion rubles were spent on the construction of the Aquatics Palace. The building has two special halls for swimming and diving, a medical centre, fitness centre rooms, a restaurant, a conference room, a press centre and commentator booths. The Aquatics Palace will become a training site for the Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism.
